Thank you for taking part in our interview study! We appreciate the time you took to speak openly and honestly about your relationship. This study is a follow-up to a large-scale online survey we conducted in 2019 investigating how individuals share and experience affection within romantic relationships. Through this study, we were particularly curious to learn how individuals in different types of relationships may experience affection differently, especially as a function of context. For example, very little research has explored public displays of affection, and even less has explored how such experiences may differ for those in interracial (mixed-race) relationships as compared to intraracial (same-race) relationships. Through the current study, we are hoping to gain a better understanding of how factors such as vigilance, perceived relationship support, and race influence affection-sharing. Overall, we hope to bridge an existing gap in the research by gaining a rich understanding of how individuals in diverse relationships experience affection-sharing in public and in private and learn what, if any associations affection-sharing may have with important dimensions of well-being, including relational, mental, and physical well-being.
Two upcoming projects in our line of research involve asking people to share memories of specific experiences with affection sharing, and a daily dairy study, in which we will collect more detailed information about ongoing affection sharing practices. We hope you will be willing to participate in one or both of these studies, if contacted. There will be payment or prize draws associated with each study. Of course, you are free to say yes or no to any study when the time comes.
It is possible that throughout the interview, you may have recalled painful or upsetting memories. If you feel the need to talk about your reactions to this study, we have provided a list of resources below. Thank you again for your time. If you have any additional questions or comments, please feel free to contact us.
